Our laboratory has developed an approved United States Food and Drug Administration drug library set, and a non-regulated dietary supplement library. The Formulary for Drug Activity (FDA2000) drug library is currently being screened in an oxidant injury model, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in vitro models, Parkinson's Disease in vivo model, Alzheimer's Disease in vitro model, Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) in vitro model, yeast expression model, and a renal injury model. From all the drug screens/models in our laboratory and with our collaborators we have identified a subset of drugs that provide beneficial outcomes in all of the models tested. To further investigate the role of these drugs in providing a beneficial outcome in the models, we are performing microarray (gene chip) analysis on the drugs.
